It roared through the alley and out onto the main street, spinning completely to pin a perpetrator's car against the curb - it was the four wheeled, 400 cubic-inch co-star of "Starsky and Hutch: - a popular mid-'70s TV cop show. What began as a stock Gran Torino was fitted with mags, oversized tires, air shocks and hijackers on the rear end, and was finally painted tomato red with a wild white stripe.

Characters David Starsky and Kenneth Hutchinson used Starsky's '76 Torino - and used it hard - to keep the city streets safe, and the car became so popular that Ford later produced limited edition "Starsky and Hutch" Gran Torinos.
